St. Hyacinth Chapel – a renovated chapel; birthplace of St. Hyacinth.
Upstairs in the castle tower there is a chapel of St. Hyacinth accessible by an outside double staircase. The chapel was created as a result of converting a room in which St. Hyacinth was allegedly born in 1183. The conversion took place in 1701 at the behest of Baroness Magdalene von Larisch nee Kotuli?ska, and was completed by the Baroness’s son Karl Ludwik Hiazynt von Larisch in 1774. Between 1779 and 1799, the chapel was sumptuously furnished by Sophia von Larisch nee von Strachwitz, a subsequent lady of Kamie?. 1841-1856 was a period of renovation. The original furnishings of the chapel are all gone today. St. Hyacinth founded the order and the first Polish Dominican monastery in Kraków (after coming back from his studies in Rome, Bologne, and Paris). The present style of the chapel matches the style of the entire palace and park complex. It is equipped with a Rococo altar with a sculpture of St. Hyacinth brought from Siestrzychowice near Nysa. The sculpture shows St. Hyacinth holding the monstrance in one hand and the statue of Virgin Mary in another. Legend has it that St. Hyacinth was forced to flee from Kiev chased by the Tartars. Taking the burning Eucharist from the church, he heard a mysterious voice saying “Hyacinth, how can you take the son and leave his mother?” So he decided to take the statue of Mary as well. Even though it was made of stone, it was no burden. Next to St. Hyacinth there are statues of St. Ceslaus (patron of Wroc?aw) and St. Bronis?awa (a Norbertine from Kraków), both born in Kamie?. All three are connected by the fact of coming from the eminent Medieval family of Odrow??. In the upper part of the altar, a group scene shows Holy Trinity crowning Virgin Mary.
