Regional Silesian Chamber of Konrad Mientus

designation:

Chrz?stowice - Daniec Municipality,

short description:

Museum Chamber set up by Konrad Mientus. Its artefacts reflect the history of the Opole Silesia from the ancient times to the present day.

Detailed description:

Konrad Mientus is a walking institution. Everyone in the municipality knows him. In the district and the province he is a household name with all those who know something about the history of the region. The reason is that Konrad Mientus embodies history – his knowledge of his village and its more of less distant surroundings surpasses anyone’s, and he is ready to share it with anyone who wants to listen. He is one of the last story-tellers in the Opolskie province. There are few people who can spin the yarn of the grand and local history of Silesia so well using their flair and erudition to explain where the Cossack regiments buried their dead when they got here chasing the Great Army of Bonaparte away from Moscow. He will also explain the intention behind an anonymous chapel erected at the field cross-roads 150 years ago, the composition and recipe of krupnio?ki, the meaning of st?pa r?czna, and the function of pó?funtka. Artefacts gathered by Konrad Mientus in his Regional Chamber illustrate the kind of history that is absent from textbooks and the media. It is the forgotten history. Let us hope that the augury on the door of his chamber does not come true: “A time may come when all the gold of the world will not be enough to trace the roots of our fathers”.
