Pawe? Patisserie owned by Pawe? Schlensak
detailed description:
The establishment bakes and sells the traditional Silesian ko?ocz, a round yeast cake whose taste depends on the kind of filling used (cheese, poppy-seed, or apple). It is covered with crumb topping which turns light golden when the cake is out of the oven. This kind of cake was already popular in the times of Polish nobility when it was baked on the occasion of many family gatherings. The name ko?ocz (from the Polish ko?o, or wheel) derives from the circular mould in which it was baked. Today, the moulds are rectangular, but the cake is still very popular in Silesia where it is served during numerous family gatherings and village festivals.
