Palace and park complex from the 19th century
The palace and park complex from the 19th century consists of a Neo-Baroque palace from the first half of the 19th century and a park surrounding the palace from the end of the 19th century. The palace in Zakrzów was built in 1831, with extensions added ca. 1895. It is known as The Old Manor House, a three-bay rectangular Neo-Baroque construction with projections on the quoins, built in the period 1831-1895 by Count Larisch von Mönnich. On the south side there is a portico supported by eight columns with a terrace. A staircase has also been retained. The palace has a mansard roof with dormer windows. In the basement there is a 30-metre-deep well, preserved to this day. The chapel in which Countess Eleanor Von Haslingen was buried is in ruins now. Legend has it her ghost, called the White Lady, haunts the palace and park. Alongside the construction of the palace a park was laid out on an area of 9.48 ha. It contains numerous historical specimens on the list of protected trees, including two Crimean lindens listed as natural monuments, an American tulip tree, a black pine, a London plane, a green Douglas-fir, a bur oak and a turkey oak, a European beech, a large-leaved linden and a Yeddo spruce. The preserved parkland is also under protection, e.g. the remains of a garden situated on the western side of the palace and the ellipsoidal regular lawn situated on the eastern side of the palace, the boundary promenade and the paths and alleys diverging from the palace. After the war the palace belonged to a state-owned farm, later to the Katowice foundry and to Herbapol. After the war during the renovation work all its stylistic features were obliterated. These days the palace is property of the Municipal Authorities of Polska Cerekiew and is on lease to the Countryside Horse-riding Centre “Lewada.” It is gradually undergoing the process of renovation – the roof and windows have already been replaced, renovation of the façade is planned.
