Gogolin was granted its town charter in 1967. The event is commemorated by the monument of Karolinka and Karlik, characters from a Silesian folk song. It was unveiled on May 28 1967 and is located by the railway station square. The monument is by Tadeusz Wencel, a sculptor from Opole. Its message is symbolic, which is why the image of Karolinka and Karlik are part of the emblem of this less than 40-year-old town.
