Monar manor house.
Chrz?stowice - Zbicko Municipality
Somewhere around the location of the present stylish manor house belonging to Monar, in the Middle Ages there was a hunting lodge of the Piasts.
Today the place houses a Rehabilitation And Reintegration Centre of the Monar Association. In addition to its nominal line of business, the centre operates as a service provider – it manages stables for saddleback horses. The Monar house in Zbicko was initially established in 1982 as the first centre in Poland for HIV positive drug addicts. A few years later, the centre’s activities were suspended only to start again in 1989 with a new formula and under new management. Ever since, the Zbicko centre has been in constant operation led by therapeutic staff with excellent experience of working with the addicted. Zbicko itself is located on the outskirts of Opole and borders on vast garden allotments on Cz?stochowska street. The centre is an independent residential and farming complex of rural character situated on the site of what used to be a 19th century estate. People undergoing treatment live in a historic manor house. In addition, there are two other, more modern residential buildings. They contain offices, therapy rooms, and rooms for people working with the centre. The centre has a new canteen built with the common effort of patients, staff, as well as associated companies and institutions. The rest is a complex of stables with a vast paddock for the horses. The centre also breeds pigs and goats. Total area amounts to 8 ha belonging to the Association and 8 ha of leased area used mainly as arable land for, among others, potato, beetroot, carrot, parsley, and onion. The centre has plastic tunnels with tomatoes, pepper, and cucumbers. As a result, the residents of the centre are independent to a considerable degree. Those who are interested in environmentalism or agriculture have their work cut out for them. They can also help manage the forest and do carpentry. In the centre, there are football pitches and volleyball courts as well as a playground for small children. Leisure time is understood mainly as an active period, so those who like to sleep in have to become more motivated. The life of the centre’s community is made more interesting by yearly camping excursions and outings. Every summer the residents negotiate the waterways of the Opolskie and Kaszuby regions. Nearby Turawskie lakes, together with the Ma?a Panew and Jemielnica rivers flowing through beautiful forests, are the places of camping and canoeing expeditions which are organised from spring to autumn. The residents are also frequently invited to events or they themselves hold events to which the communities from other Monar centres are invited.
