In S?awniowice the world’s oldest marble (600 million years old) is extracted. It is extracted in two varieties: grey-blue and golden. Marbles from S?awniowice decorate many buildings in Poland and abroad, such as: the seat of the Polish Parliament (Sejm), the Royal Castle in Copenhagen (Denmark), the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital, the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, International Airport in Balice. In addition, the mine has become home to lesser horseshoe bats, entered into the Red List of Threatened Species.
