Dish – szpliter

Baking of szpliter is a traditional occupation of women from the Silesian Women Association in Mionów, the municipality of G?ogówek.
To bake szpliter you will need 1 kg of flour, 1 kg of butter, 6 eggs, vinegar, marmalade, preserve and icing sugar. Divide the flour into two. Knead one part with eggs and vinegar and then roll the dough up. Knead the other part with butter and roll the dough up. Place the pieces of dough on each other, fold in half and roll them up, repeating the folding and rolling up many times. Put the dough kneaded in that way aside into a fridge for one day. Before baking, roll the dough up, cut into squares 4 cm by 4 cm in size, add the preserve into the middle and stick together the two corners of a square. Szpliter may be served with powdered sugar. Spliter is a traditional cake baked in villages. Women from the Silesian Women Association in Mionów organise demonstrations of baking szpliter and tasting shows and promote baking recipes.
