“Silesian sky” or “Silesian paradise” / “Silesian delicacy”, (Germ. Schlesisches Himmelreich) is a dish which is very popular in Silesia. The dish appeared as a result of cooking and proper seasoning of smoked pork meat. Soaked, then cooked and seasoned, with the dried-fruit sauce and dumplings was a dish adding variety to everyday cuisine. It was served with buchtas (yeast cakes) or dumplings with the addition of light-brown gravy. The dish has a characteristic flavour of sweet gravy of dried plums and soundly smoked bacon. “Silesian sky” has interested a connoisseur of world cuisine, Robert Mak?owicz, and was the main subject of one of his TV programmes promoting the culinary heritage of Poland. On 14 May 2007, "Silesian sky" was entered in the List of Traditional Products in the “Ready-made dishes” category (Opolskie Province). The product is registered on the list of traditional products of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Women from the Silesian Women Association in Wierzch organise demonstrations of cooking the “Silesian sky” and tasting shows and promote cooking recipes. Contact – phone: (+48)77 437 39 29
