designation:

Przewóz

short description:

Chapel of ease of St. Jude the Apostle in Przewóz

Detailed description:

The wooden log chapel of ease of St. Jude the Apostle in Przewóz was built in 1559. It was renovated in 1711 and in 1937 moved from Giera?towice (the municipality of Re?ska Wie?). The church has a front frame-structure tower with a broach roof, a square nave with a music choir and a three-sided presbytery. The roof is topped with a Baroque bell turret. The church was built under the direction of Jerzy Kampa from Roszowice-P?onia. Until World War II the church council was in charge of the church and the holy mass was celebrated by the Franciscan Fathers from Racibórz. During World War II the church suffered considerable damage and required major renovation. The renovated roof was covered with tin, as there was no appropriate material available in those times. In 1958 new bells were funded, as the previous bells had been confiscated during the war. In 1961, the figure of St. Jude the Apostle, destroyed during the war, was replaced by a painting by Theodore Lempik from Dobrze?. In 1979 the wooden tower was renovated, a year later the whole church was repainted, and 1981 saw a redesign of the main altar and maintenance work on the church. In 1982 a new altar was constructed and the floor in the vestibule replaced.
