Small sponge cakes covered with crumbly, delicately glazed and smooth creamy-coloured ”shell”. The top of the cake is slightly bigger than the base, which is darker yellow. The cake is dry and crispy, with a distinct aniseed flavour. In the past aniseed cakes were mainly served at Christmas and family celebrations, later also at weddings.
