short text:

The fascination of water in its original form is the central theme of three water experiences in Gailtal valley, on the southern edge of Austria. This three-hour water experience walk is suitable for people of all ages, all you need is sturdy shoes. The route leads across a unique 100-year-old wooden suspension bridge to a powerful waterfall in the middle of a forest. Quench your thirst with spring water, which you’ll take with you from our Goldberg.

detailed description:

An exercise in letting go. Starting out from our mountain farm, you drive 4 km to the train station in the village of St. Daniel, where you park your car. Take the path leading across the platform to the wooden suspension bridge. On the bench by the 100-year-old bridge, imagine you have a rucksack filled with all those things you want to get rid of. We can now consciously discard the contents of this rucksack into the three water bodies we are about to visit. In the middle of the bridge, plant your feet firmly on the ground and face downstream for several minutes and shed the first portion of your unwanted loads.

Water, the essence of all things. The route carries on through a beautiful riparian forest accompanying the river Gail. The moment you leave the riverbank, the music of the flowing water will fall silent and birdsong will announce the forest. After a leisurely walk of around 20 minutes, you will arrive at the village of Weidenburg. At Weidenburg palace you continue for 50 m in eastern direction along the road. Cross the road – here you’ll hear the mountain stream – and follow the signpost showing the way to the waterfall, near the fire station. After another 200 metres by the fishermen’s hut, sit down by the stream and have a short rest. “For water is everything and everything returns to water,” the Greek philosopher Thales of Milet said in 500 BC. Ponder this saying while you gaze into the water, and be aware that, here too, you can let go of any burdensome, extra baggage in your life. Continue until you reach a fork and choose the path to your right. Your route will now take you uphill through well cared-for mixed woodland. After about half an hour you’ll reach the waterfall plunging from a height of 20 metres.
Can you feel the tremendous energy radiating from this natural force? Can you still feel something like a rucksack on your back? Then pass it on to the thundering waterfall! Breathe in and out deeply several times and be pleased about the freedom you have regained. Allow yourself a rest and open up your heart to this natural beauty.

The same route will lead you back to the village of St. Daniel, your starting point. Now that you’ve re-energised your soul, it’s your body’s turn, so stop in at Gasthof Grünwald. If it happens to be autumn, we recommend you try a dish with the interesting name “Nudl-Kudl-Mudl”, an assortment of Carinthian noodles.
