Between the Carnic and the Gailtaler Alps, close to the Italian border, you will find the centuries-old Malerhof, a farm that was first mentioned in records back in the 16th century. In a vast alpine pasture area we would like to show you a sparkling mountain lake at an altitude of 1,766 metres. In the midday sun, you will be able to see your reflection. A daylong experience for the whole family. You will get a snack and drinks to take with you from our farm!
PEAK EXPERIENCE. Starting out from our farm you drive to Stranig via Kirchbach. Drive right through the village and when you reach the signpost “Waidegger Alm” turn left. A gravel road will take you to the Waidegger Höhe (1,746 m) where you can park your car. An information board shows an overview of the entire Carnic Alps area. This is the starting point of Hiking Trail 403 that leads to Lake Zollnersee, today’s destination. After about 20 minutes you follow the turn-off to “Gipfelkreuz Findenigkofel” (2,015 m) that you’ll reach after half an hour. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountaintops. The best part is always the view of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (3,027 m). The mountain cross is located on the border path between Italy and Austria.
Your tour continues along the ridge heading to Lake Zollnersee that you’ll reach after another half an hour. This fairly deep mountain lake has a lot of trout. Their occasional splashes break the surface of the otherwise still lake. Can you see our cattle grazing? We drive our young cattle up to this Alpine pasture every year.
Wander along the shore and find a suitable place to rest and relax. Enjoy the wonderful natural panorama and the silence and refresh yourself with the lunch we have packed for you.
KNOWLEDGE OF CREATION. There is one place in this world that only YOU can fill in. Become aware of this knowledge by standing right close by the water and studying your reflection in the lake. Try to grasp the infinite splendour of creation. In every pebble, in every flower, in every bush, in every fish you can feel the unseen hand of the Creator. And you yourself are an important and vital part of this entirety. Accept this knowledge and absorb it deeply into your heart so that you can retrieve it from your subconsciousness whenever you need it in everyday life. Remember that you are important and precious! Enjoy your stay here for as long as you like.
Your way back leads you away from the lake for a good hour along the foot of the Findenigkofel (marked trail) to the Waidegger Höhe where you have parked your car.
