short text:

Our farm that offers lots of attractive ways to slow down is situated by the shore of the highest bathing lake in the Alps, Lake Weissensee, at an altitude of 930 metres. The fiord-like lake has received a number of international awards for its drinking-water quality and fits in wonderfully in this splendid landscape. This is where the so-called “Salige” live – mythical creatures that take the shape of helpful mountain women who love giving presents to people. Perhaps you too will encounter them in a relaxed moment. Get ready for a wonderful walk!

detailed description:

The Salige live high up in the mountains, mainly in the Alps. It is told that Salige were around long before human beings came along. With it being impossible to tame them, they are also referred to as “wild women” and are known as the protectors of game, especially of chamois.

ADVANCED MOUNTAIN CLIMBING. So off we go! After the end of the village of Neusach there is a beautiful and level hiking trail that leads along the lakeshore to the Ronacherfels, an idyllic pub with a marvellous panoramic terrace. After a 30-minutes walk you’ll be there. Just before it – recommended for advanced mountain climbers only – there is a place where you can go steeply uphill through the woods. After about 25 minutes you’ll reach the “Dolamezzenloch”, a kind of cave where the Salige women are supposed to have lived. Behind the Ronacherfels, on a little hill, there is a lovely spot that invites visitors to have a rest. Gaze upon the lake, you can see as far as Techendorf with the pier and the Lienzer Dolomites in the background. When you set out again, continue along a narrow path with lots of roots heading to Tschölankofel, past small meadows and woodland where the Salige women used to help the native farmers. One day, our neighbour, Farmer Stampferbauer, was able to get hold of a Salige woman and dragged her home. She agreed to marry him, but only on one condition: he was never to raise his hand against her. The lad kept his promise and they lived happily for several years and brought up a grand number of little girls. But the inevitable happened: One day in a burst of temper he slapped her. The Salige kept her promise and instantly vanished. She only ever returned on Saturdays to do her daughters’ hair until the day they were grown up.

SONG OF THE SALIGE. Now take a moment’s time on the Tschölankofel by the pretty little hut perched so idyllically by the waterside. In bad weather it offers protection and shelter and was very likely a gift of the Salige women made to the hard-working farmers who were frequently taken by surprise by bad weather. Sit down by the waterside and let the waves wash over your bare feet. If you close your eyes and listen very hard, you might be able to hear the Salige singing. Surrender to the wonderful nature, the fragrant mountain air and the quiet splashing of the water. You will notice the energy of this special spot. Soak it in – it is an offering given to you by the Salige women!
After you have woken up from your dream-like trance, continue for another 15 minutes until you reach a small stony cliff, the Steinwand. This is also the name of the shipping pier where the ships “Weißensee” and “Kärnten” make regular stops and will take you back to your starting point.
