A 500-year-old candelabra spruce on the Napaln-Alm in Gitschtal valley in Upper Carinthia invites you to grow roots in your life and become recharged with energy. It was practically only a few years ago when we once again grew aware of the true significance of trees, those ancient beings with the ability of energetic exchange. In numerous myths, legends and traditions the image of the tree occurs again and again as the birthplace of gods and mankind. On an easy day tour, we would like to take you on a journey back to your origin, and to Nature.
A feast for your senses. Starting out from our holiday farm, situated at the edge of Weissbriach, you walk along the Schawarzenbach stream in southerly direction until you reach Hammerboden ski lift. There you follow Trail No. 6 to Möselalm. Right at the beginning of the trail you’ll see an old farmhouse with a well in front of it. Drink from the well’s running water and taste the purity and force of Nature. Now follow the path uphill, which will soon take you across a skiing slope to a bench. Take the opportunity and sit down for a while, savour the view over the valley and try and empty your mind of thoughts, so you can open up to the natural splendour surrounding you. Can you see the many rich shades of green of the trees? Can you sense the smell of the grass and the fragrance of the flowers in the lush meadows around you? Can you feel the gentle breeze coming from the forest? Can you hear the birdsong from the tree nearby? Breathe in and out deeply. Refreshed, with a clear mind, continue your walk. After about 1.5 hours you’ll arrive at the Möselalm. Here you take Trail No. 8 to the Napalnalm alpine pasture. After 20 minutes you’ll have reached the 500-year-old candelabra spruce that has a weathered wooden board fastened to it with the following words (roughly translated, in German it rhymes):
To a Friend of Nature!
I, a candelabra spruce from Möselwald forest,
am 500 years old.
My trunk has a thickness of 1.80m and a circumference of 5.65m - grown from the native meagre soil.
17 trunks have sprouted from me, lots of pitch has flown through large wounds.
My powerful, spacious trunk consists of 25 solid cubic metres of spruce wood. I have always felt mighty, right from the start. People gaze at me in awe. That is why they call me the “tree giant of Möselalm”
Should not everyone stand in awe of creation?
Contented people are those who recognise this wisdom in all of life’s situations.
Ernst Santner
Wondrous roots. These are the wise words the ancient candelabra spruce welcomes you with. Greet the tree in your very own way and gaze into the tree’s crown. Imagine you are a tree too: Let your roots grow deep into the soil! Close your eyes and relax and try to draw new energy through your roots from Mother earth. Stretch your crown towards the sun. Touch the thick trunk with your hands. You can give brother tree a nice hug too if you like: Its energy will flow through your body and make you strong. Be aware of how truly marvellous Nature really is and what she has in store for us. When you feel sufficiently refreshed with new energy, set out on your journey back.
We recommend you stop in at the Möselalm. Savour the peacefulness and slowness of the mountain pastures once more over a delicious glass of milk and Kasbrot (bread and cheese).
To return to our holiday farm Alte Post, follow Trail No. 6 from Möselalm for about 1 hour until you reach Weissbriach.
