short text:

Tucked in between lovely mountain ridges rising up to airy heights you will discover the “valley of a thousand springs” surrounding Bad Eisenkappel in the southeast of Carinthia. During the spring and autumn seasons, the breeze blows gently over the mountain ridges, tearing the clouds apart to reveal glimpses of the deep-blue sky. In the valley and on the many mountaintops cool springs with low and high mineral content gush out of the depths of Nature herself. A day tour by bike (free rental bikes available in the village) will lead you to the most beautiful spots.

detailed description:

Make use of the force of water. Either drive to Bad Eisenkappel to the tennis centre with bike rental or start out from our farm with your own bike. First of all, cycle back through the village, turn off the main road and take the well-marked bicycle path to Vellach (around 500 metres after the place-name sign). After a quarter of an hour, past the village of Miklauzhof, you reach the Drau river bicycle path and carry on in the direction of Gallizien. You continue upstream along this picturesque bicycle trail for another half hour, cross the Annabrücke bridge until you reach the village of Gallizien. Here, look out for signposts leading to the ”Wildensteiner Wasserfall”, the highest free-falling waterfall in Europe.
Leave your bike by a little take-away stand next to the bicycle trail and continue on foot. After a few steps you’ll enter a different world. The air gets cooler, breathing gets easier and you’ll soon hear the rare sound of a very powerful waterfall. In between the trees you’ll already be able to glimpse the water and marvel at the way Nature has made herself an awesome monument using tremendous dynamic force. Crystal-clear water tumbles down 56 metres of vertical rock face. Stay here for a while and savour this natural spectacle. Whatever you do, you’ll take the energy with you: Open up to it and embrace it consciously!

For body and soul. Continuing your bike tour, your route will now be a pleasant slightly downhill ride to Miklauzhof before it ascends again on the Vellach bicycle path. On the right, directly next to the bike trail, is the Jakobsquelle, the source of several springs. These springs give water with very low mineral content, which – when drunk in its original freshness – is able to give you new and undreamt-of vital force. Take off your shoes, climb into the provided Kneipp basin and tread water.

Kneipp knew exactly how to do it. Our tip: Treading water is only useful and healthy, if your feet feel warm right from the start. One leg should always be lifted completely out of the water and your foot should be pointing slightly downwards (like a stork). After about 30 seconds you’ll have a strong sensation of cold in your feet and calves. Now you must leave the water and warm your legs up again. After treading water just wipe the water off lightly (don’t dry) and exercise a little to warm up. Repeat this procedure several times; it’s a brilliant way of boosting your immune system!
Warmed up again, start back for Back Eisenkappel.
In the evening, you’ll still feel the pleasant sensation you had when your feet warmed up after the Kneipp treatment and there’s nothing to keep you from having a good night’s sleep!
