FEAST FOR THE EYES. You can reach this special forest clearing by taking the Water Theme Trail that not only delivers precious insights into the diverse methods of water protection, but also gives you an impression of the flora and fauna to be found in our area. Setting out from our farm, it will take you about three minutes to reach the theme trail that will lead you to the eastern parts of Rattendorf. From there you carry on in southward direction along the Doberbach stream, a mountain torrent that has some amazing pebbles and rocks in its bed. On the right-hand side of the trail you will see the Rattendorfer Gries – a meadow that is a true flower and herb paradise. Here you may well discover one or two flowers you have never seen before.

IMMERSE YOUR SENSES. After a good half hour you leave the theme trail and turn right when you reach the wooden signpost saying “Waldkreuz”. Walking across the soft forest floor you will reach the atmospheric little clearing in the middle of the woods after about five minutes. On the invigorating spot where a chapel used to stand that was built in the 1920s there is now a forest shrine. You can still make out the foundations of the old chapel. Settle down on the bench and open yourself up to this special little spot. You will notice that every one of your senses is being stimulated: Take deep breathfuls of the fresh, savoury forest air, listen to the many-voiced birdsong surrounding you and the murmuring of the mountain stream in the background. Turn your gaze to the sky: Could it be that the sky is linked to the ground? Feel the warmth of the wonderful sunbeams lighting up the leaves and lending a soft magical atmosphere to this special place. Relax so that you can feel and soak in the energy of this site. Stay as long as you like. 

VANTAGE POINT. Now continue along the forest path and you will reach the theme trail again that leads you around the village. Follow the gravel path for a while in the direction of Rattendorfer Alm and turn right when you reach the wooden signpost “Wassererlebnisweg” and follow the path along the edge of the forest until you reach a vantage point with a wonderful view over our village. Taking the theme trail from here it will always take you 15 minutes to reach your starting point.
