Rediscover the forest with all of your senses: This is what you can do near our children’s farm in Lower Carinthia. For theses “sensual hours with a difference” we recommend wearing sturdy shoes and long trousers.
ON A BED OF MOSS… Right behind our farm, at the entrance of the spruce forest you’ll notice a group of deciduous trees. Follow the nice, soft woodland path! You’ll need all of your senses to fully enjoy the next few hours so that you can live on the memories for a very long time.
After about 700 metres you will arrive at a beautiful mossy glade surrounded by some very old spruces. Sit or lie down on the bed of moss next to a tree. Stretch out and feel the wonderful softness of your forest bed with your hands. Focus on your breathing and enjoy the lovely forest air.
…LET YOUR MIND WANDER. Now close your eyes and try to sense yourself inside your body for a while. Just let any thoughts pass by and try to listen to the sounds around you. You might first feel as if you were surrounded by silence, but only in the beginning. Then you will hear the birds chirping and singing, the murmuring of the leaves, maybe the sounds of other forest animals, perhaps a busy squirrel scrambling up a tree... Surrender to this moment and savour the feeling of not having to do anything. Just “being” and simply letting go of all the things that occupy your mind in everyday life.
SENSE THE FOREST. Now open your eyes again, and study the crowns of the trees around you and the many forest shades of green that are known to have a soothing effect on us. May the sun smile down on you through the trees and warm you and strengthen you!
If you like, you can get up now and choose a tree that has roots visible above the ground. Now close your eyes again and try to feel the bark with your hands. Our fingertips respond very sensitive and sense even the smallest of stimuli. Now bend down with closed eyes and trace the roots until they enter the soil.
YOU HAVE TASTE! On your way back to the farm, see if you can find any woodland strawberries or wild raspberries (provided it is the right season, of course). Now you’ll need your sense of taste to savour the sun-ripened fruit to the fullest extent. First take in the berries’ scent before you pick them. Be aware of their appearance and let them melt on your tongue. Eat as much as you like...
How do you feel now? If you have the impression that this little forest experience has invigorated your senses, set out on your way back home.
