Every year, exactly the last Saturday of July, the people from Kanfanar have their big event, the exhibition of istrian cattle well know in Istria like "istarski boškarin". Jakovlja is an celebration of St. Jakov (St. Jakob) who is a patron of the town Kanfanar. Istrian cattle is a pure blood breed and it belongs into the type of meat-labor cattle. It belongs to the european primitive cattle group and it is very close to initial fossil species Bos primigenus. It’s origin is probably south Russia and Besarabia from where the cattle arrived to our territories 2500 years ago. It is on the list of endangered breeds since 1994. The current situation with the numerosity of population of istrian cattle is: 375 cows, 18 bulls, 120 heifers, 40 ox, 170 calves. The most interesting about this history of this beautiful animal is his weight. The bull weights from 1000 to 1200 kg, cow from 600 to 800 kg and ox-istrian cattle from 800 to 1400 kg.
