Only 3 kilometers far from Kanfanar lies one of the most beautiful and exciting Istrian Medieval town Dvigrad. The ruins of two medieval forts and a significant monumental complex of the architectural heritage. One of the fortified cities was called Castel Parentin and the other Moncastello, and that is how the present place name of Dvigrad (Two cities) emerged. Today, only one town can be seen on the norhtern side of the valley, and it is in ruins. Castel Parentin, that used to stand on the other side of the valley, cannot be seen at all. The ruins, numerous remnants of towers, castles and ancient cities are making this historical town Dvigrad absolutely unique in all Istrian area.
