Together with Poggio Medola, the Rupe del Calvario (788 m.) represents the most consistent ophiolithic complex of the Modenese Apennines. On the summit of the Grotto del Calvario, which emerges from the slope below with walls approximately 10 metres high, sits the church of the Madonna del Calvario, an excellent point from which to view the splendid panorama of the whole valley. Of great interest is the rocky wall uphill the SP 486, in which the stratification of flysch (a type of rock formed over the course of millions of centuries on the bed of the primordial Thetis sea) is clearly visible.
