Widawa River
Widawa (from the old Slavonic “vid” – to turn, to meander) is a river in western Poland. One of the right tributaries of the Odra River. Length: 110 km, river basin: 1 716 km2 . Its sources are to be found in the Twardogórskie Hills, at 204 m above sea level, in the village of Dro?towice, north west of Syców. Near Namys?ów the river changes its direction from the southern to the western. Widawa has been regulated and wholly or partially embanked. Its banks are covered by rush, reed and grass. For most of its course Widawa flows through a wide and flat valley with a relatively gentle slope. Because of its shallow river bed, Widawa often floods adjacent meadows. Widawa is the central waterway of the Ole?nica Plain. As it reaches the Wroc?aw Plain, it creates picturesque meanders and flows into the Odra River in Wroc?aw, on the 267th km of Odra’s course. Widawa’s waters are not classified (main indicators: nitrite nitrogen, total phosphorus, coliform count); only above Wroc?aw can they be classified as Purity Class III waters (2002). For years the river near Bierutów has been stocked with trout which makes it attractive to anglers.
