Stoczek spring

designation:

Kolonowskie - Staniszcze Ma?e Municipality,

short description:

The spring has been well-known for centuries in Staniszcze Ma?e. No miracles have made it famous yet, but its water is as cold and crystal-clear as nowhere else.

detailed description:

The inhabitants of the village know this very well and have drawn water from the spring for ages. An additional asset of Stoczek is its location – one can find it on an exceptionally picturesque route among meadows and pine forests. Stoczek is a charming spring flowing from the foot of the postglacial elevation and surrounded by mixed forests and meadows of interesting natural features. The area around the spring is developed and can be used as an ideal place of leisure. An additional benefit is the very tasty and cold potable water. In the vicinity of the spring there are a lot of interesting and protected plant varieties including the orchis, the western march orchid, the fetching water forget-me-not, and the medicinal comfrey. One can also find rare and protected insect species. The ones that are protected and comparatively common are the carabids: Carabus cancellatus and Carabus granulatus. As for the butterflies, one of the most beautiful and spectacularly coloured of the Polish species is the swallowtail butterfly which can be seen around Stoczek in sunlit spots. Vertebrates are also represented with a substantial number of amphibian species. There is the smooth newt, common frog, common toad, European green toad, and the increasingly rare European tree frog. The reptile class is represented in the vicinity of Stoczek by two species of lizards: the sand lizard and the slow-worm. Out of the many species of nesting birds, the most common are the ones connected with open areas. These include the meadow pipit, blue headed wagtail, lark, and the yellowhammer. The area is also host to numerous mammal species with the common shrew as one of the most interesting ones.
