San Pellegrino is crossed by one of the most ancient roads in the area, the Via Bibulca. Of Roman origin, it was mainly developed during domination by the Lombards as an access road to their estates in Garfagnana, and later (and most importantly) due to the importance acquired by the Abbey of Frassinoro, founded by Beatrice di Lorena, mother of Matilde di Canossa.
