The Roman Catholic church of the Holy Trinity in Gorzów ?l?ski
The Roman Catholic church of the Holy Trinity in Gorzów ?l?ski was built in 1895-97 on the site of a wooden church destroyed by fire. Its lack led to a decision to build a new, brick church in the Gothic style. The present church impresses with its beauty and size. The contract to build the church was signed as early as 28.04.1884. Already in June the foundation stone was consecrated and laid. Otto Hempel, an architect from Byczyna, and Tomasz Skaletz, a master bricklayer from Kluczbork can be considered to be the main creators of the church. The main altar depicts the Holy Trinity, while the altars in the church porch represent, respectively, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and Our Lady of Sorrows. In 1923 a new bell was bought for the church. World War II saw the building damaged. The Nazi authorities took away the church bells, metal candle holders and dismantled the beautiful iron railings of the church square. When the front moved through Gorzów in 1945, the church was hit by 23 missiles which damaged its roof, walls, windows, pillars and gutters. Everything needed to be renovated. In 1951 two iron bells were bought and consecrated. In 1955 the church tower was renovated and in 1987 the roof was covered with copper sheet. In the 1990s the altars and ways of the cross were renovated and lighting as well as stained-glass windows were replaced. The size and beauty make the church stand out against the surrounding area. Administratively, today the Gorzów parish belongs to the Diocese of Opole; once in Olesno Deanery it has been part of the Gorzów Deanery since 1950.
