“Kokorycz” Nature Reserve

designation:

Nysa K?odzka river valley, Tu?owice Forest Division, Grodków Municipality

short description:

Forest nature reserve. Characteristic plants are Corydalis cava, Corydalis intermedia and ramsons (Allium ursinum). The trees of the reserve are oaks, ash-trees, lindens, sycamores and hornbeams.

detailed description:

The reserve land is covered with an oak forest of 110-150 years old with the addition of the linden, ash-tree, hornbeam and maple-tree. The shrub layer is dominated by the spindle-tree and ash wilding trees. The dry-ground low forest complex here is predominantly of two varieties: Corydalis and the ramsons. In the first sub-complex, two species of Corydalis (“kokorycz") grow here: Corydalis cava and Corydalis intermedia. From those species the name of the reserve derives. It should be emphasised that both the varieties are extremely scarce in the Opole region. In the reserve area also an elm and ash riverside carr, as well as a willow and poplar riverside carr have developed. The protected plants growing in the reserve include the common snowdrop, blooming in fields in early spring in dry-ground forest habitats, and the oxlip. Other, rarely found species are the following: ramsons, solomon’s seal and tuberrous comfrey. There are 92 vascular plant species found here, and a unique object of natural interest is the splendid, monumental specimens of oaks, ashes, etc.
