The Mauthner Alm in the Carnic Alps, close to the Italian border, in the south of Carinthia is well known as an exceptional flower paradise. The cross on the mountain summit is at 1,783 metres above sea level! Hiking is soothing to the soul: Once you have arrived at your destination, you are awarded a glorious view over the Gailtal valley and the surrounding peaks. On this whole-day experience expect to climb an altitude of 900 metres, so we recommend taking sturdy shoes and hiking poles with you as well as a lunch package and drinks. Pure hiking time is around 3,5 hours.
Magnificent moments. Setting out at our mountain farm, you drive through Kötschach to Mauthen in the direction of Plöckenpass/Italy until Lamprechtbauer farm where you leave your car and hike to the Enzianhütte along a well-marked trail. This will take a good hour. On the right-hand side a trail, partly in the shade, will take you to the Hansile-Hütte where you keep to the left until you reach the summit of the Mauthner Alm. Before you do anything else, make sure to touch the cross on the summit and give thanks for the good climb. Now go ahead and surrender to the breathtaking impressions around you. Marvel at the panoramic view – in good weather you’ll be able to see far beyond the Italian border!
Free as a bird. Up here it’s easy to soar high above everyday life... Can you imagine how it is to be almost weightless and fly through the air like a bird? Breathing deeply and consciously will make it easier still for you to exhale anything that is heavy and troubles you and inhale anything that is light and new. In this wide expanse of space and viewed from a bird’s eye perspective, day-to-day worries are much easier to solve. Perhaps you would like to take this opportunity to give your life a new direction. Remember that it’s never too late for changing course! Embrace the impressions and take them with you in your heart that is now free and open to all that life offers. Take your time and linger as long as you like. When you feel like it, have your lunch right here on the mountaintop – it will taste delicious!
Though you’ll be taking the same way down, you’ll no longer be the same person you were before. To conclude your experience, we recommend stopping in at the Enzianhütte – the Kaiserschmarrn (pancake strips with raisins) cooked by Anni, the popular landlady, is amazing! And while you are at the “gentian hut”, why not treat yourself to a glass of genuine gentian schnapps.
After a 40-minutes descent, you will reach the car park at Lamprechtbauer where you started out on your adventure.
