Palace in Izbicko

designation:

Izbicko

short description:

The gate to the property is guarded by stone boars. The animals also feature in the coat of arms of the Strachwitz family and the Izbicko village. The new owner of the palace promises that venison will be served.

Detailed description:

Owners of the estate changed in the following order – 1556-1575 Count von Manowski, 1575-1729 Counts Frankenberg, 1729-1772 Counts von Larisch, 1772-1792 Count von Stuuer. The estate went bankrupt in 1799. Between 1800 and 1811 it was owned by Counts von Seilitz and von Erichson; between 1811 and 1945 by Counts von Strachwitz. The mansion was burnt down during the Third Silesian Uprising in 1921. It was rebuilt in the Neo-Classicist style to be destroyed again by Russian troops in 1945. After the war, it housed an Agricultural School for many years. Today the palace is a private property with the function of a hotel. In 2003, the ruined estate was bought from the District Starosty in Strzelce Opolskie by a local entrepreneur. In 2006, the same person also bought a 10 ha park from the Izbicko Municipality. The present owner has not been in touch with the Strachwitz descendants ever since rumours started that they want to claim their rights to the property through the Prussian Trust founded in Germany. Although Margrit Strachwitz denies making such attempts, the matter cooled the initially good relations between the investor and the German family. Those who want to learn more about the history of the von Strachwitz family can do so at the family’s website www.strachwitz.net. Started 3 years ago, the renovation of the Izbicko palace will be complete in 2007. The facility is already functional and open for guests. It has a business centre called VIP-PALM with five conference rooms, and two ball rooms. The hotel itself has 60 rooms with the total of 120 beds. Planned investment includes a spa, horse stables, carriages, limousines, tennis courts, and a pitch. Around the palace, there is a beautiful historic 10 ha park.
