Palace and Park Complex in D?brówka Górna.

designation:

D?brówka Górna

short description:

The palace was built in mid 17th century, but it is assumed that it replaced a former defensive building of that type.

Detailed description:

One of the local legends goes that, centuries ago, a stronghold on the Oder river was home of a princess called D?brówka. She is to rest in a silver sarcophagus in the oldest part of the palace. The first known owners of the property were the Rogoyski family who bought it in 1490 and were its only masters until the 18th century. Then it was owned by Jerzy Ludwik von Dalwig who sold it to Walter von Teichmann – Logischen in 1850. The palace is surrounded by a vast park in which one can stop and reflect over the graves of its last owners, the Teichmann – Logischen family. The last member of the family, Baron Gotfryd married an actress, Krystyna Duschanek, against his mother. According to a legend, during the night after their wedding there appeared a wall separating the palace into two equal parts. The palace is located on an escarpment. Stairs starting in the vast observation terrace lead to the park and a pond situated in the middle of an old tree stand. The pond is natural, vast, and covered by water plants. It never freezes over, not even in the most severe cold, because there is a spring flowing from under it. There are two alleys leading from this place to the Oder – the lime and the chestnut one. Both end in the fields just before the river. The 6.13 ha park in D?brówka Górna is in the register of the Provincial Conservator of Historical Monuments and is protected by law. It was created in the second half of the 17th century. Originally, it was designed as a landscape park; only later, in the 17th century, an observation axis was added to it. In the park there are tree stands of many species and different ages. The dominant species is the black alder. In the southern part its age is estimated at about 200 years. In the western part, there is a 4.30 ha pond. The park needs thinning and irrigation. It is also necessary to reintroduce its old characteristic features. Its natural assets are imposing old trees and interesting flora specimens protected by law such as the common ivy, autumn crocus, and the Guelder-rose. There is also a legendary spring of St. Jadwiga. Legend has it that when she was travelling in Silesia, St. Jadwiga stopped by the spring and drank of it. Its water is believed to have medicinal properties. The current owner of the palace and the Rogów Plant Breeding Centre, Mr. Marian Górecki, plans to set up a golf course with 27 holes on 70 ha. Such a perfect place to play golf is nowhere to be found in the Opolskie province. The specifications are ready. All that is needed are partners who will help finance this bold initiative.
