Detailed description:

The Museum of the Resistance was set up inside the fortress of Montefiorino in 1979. Renovated in 1994 and extended between 1994 and 1996, it offers a wealth of information on the history of the first partisan Republic of Italy, the "Republic of Montefiorino", which existed from the 18th of June to the 2nd of August 1944. The Museum is organised in chronological order and by theme, and visitors can follow the unfolding of the historic events from the 8th of September 1943 onwards - the Resistance, the formation and the life of the Republic - which led to freedom and to the end of the war. Using photographs, documents and objects used by the partisan groups such as weapons, clothing and the letters of those who fought, each display unit presents a different subject. There are also slides available for viewing and videos showing footage and the words of the partisans themselves. An intense and touching step back into the contemporary history of our area.
