short description:

Lake Otmuchowskie – water retention reservoir built on the river Nysa K?odzka.

detailed description:

Lake Otmuchowskie – a water reservoir built in the years 1926-33, covering 2,000 ha and with a storage capacity of 143 million cubic metres. A nationally unique habitat of grey heron, surrounded by a 29-hectare reserve with numerous old-growth groups of trees of birch and oak. In the past, there were three villages located in the place of the present Lake Otmuchowskie. In 1924 construction of the retention reservoir was commenced with the aim of retaining water from the river Nysa K?odzka flowing from the Sudety mountains during spring thaws, which had frequently flooded local areas. Today, numerous leisure centres with sandy beaches and marinas are located around its shores offering splendid conditions for summer leisure seekers and nearly all types of water sports and angling. The lake is known among all Polish anglers as a perfect angling ground, especially of pikeperch. Lake Otmuchowskie is often compared with Bavarian lakes in Germany. It is equal to some of them in the size and the beauty of its landscape. The lake is naturally and harmoniously set in the local landscape. Nature has stayed untouched and the romance of this superb region has not suffered any damages either. Sun, air and water are a magnet for thousands of tourists attracted by the area. In the vicinity of the lake, there is a unique habitat of grey heron.
