Forest Nature Reserve "Komorzno"
Wo?czyn Municipality, Forest District Office Namys?ów
The "Komorzno" Forest Nature Reserve was established in the municipality of Wo?czyn to preserve the southernmost Pomeranian beech stand (185-year-old beeches).
Nature reserves, according to the Environmental Protection Act, are the areas encompassing natural or slightly changed ecosystems, particular animal and plant species, inanimate objects of considerable scientific, cultural, landscape and didactic value. It occupies an area of 3.70 ha. The beech stand here is rather poor in comparison with the Pomeranian stands, though it is interesting as the beeches grow far from their typical zone boundary. The predominant species in the reserve is the European beech Fagus sylvatica, which in places grows in pure, unmixed stands. Apart from the beech there are also the Scots pine, the common hornbeam and the sessile oak.
