Chapel with the statue of Our Lady

designation:

Wygoda

short description:

Built in 1933 in a private area in Wygoda to commemorate the dead of the First World War.

Detailed description:

When foundations for new houses were dug in Wygoda in the 1930s, builders found many bones of soldiers in four different locations. The bones were all gathered and buried in one place where a chapel was erected in 1933. Bones, this time of Swedish troops, were also found in the 1950s when the village was being electrified. These, however, were simply covered with earth next to the pylons. The Thirty Years’ War was the period of many big battles in the area. It is said that Charles Gustav of Sweden stopped for a rest near Wygoda by an age-old pear tree to look at the surroundings. He was then attacked and half his troops were killed.
