Boulder of Frederick Augustus III
Dobrodzie? – Rz?dowice Municipality
When Frederick Augustus III was dying in 1932, the Kingdom of Saxony was no longer there and the world was headed towards a new war.
However, people in Dobrodzie? still remembered the last of the Saxons. It was in his memory, that in 1932 the officials of the local Forest District Office set a large boulder behind the forester’s lodge in Rz?dowice. Engraved on the boulder, there were the letters FAR (standing for Fridericus Augustus Rex) as well as a crown and the following inscription in German: “To their unforgettable Royal Master, the foresters from the Dobrodzie? Forest District Office, 1932”. The inhabitants of Dobrodzie? retained a fond memory of The House of Wettin. The House took over the town in 1884 during the reign of one of the oldest rulers from that dynasty, Albrecht I. It was not Albrecht, however, but the last of the Wettins that became engraved in the memory of the inhabitants. King Frederick Augustus III was crowned in 1904 and ruled the Kingdom of Saxony until 1918. He was a frequent guest in Dobrodzie?, staying at his hunting lodge located in the area of today’s Piastowska street. He is said not to have avoided his subjects, being a kind and understanding monarch. In 1919, when the monarchy fell, the king sold Dobrodzie?. Almost ten years later, the town was bought by the Prussian state.
